Coach Matt’s fitness background started with athletics. Throughout his youth and well into his 30’s sports and fitness remained a significant part of his life. He maintained a healthy lifestyle by staying active and doing common workouts on a regular basis. However, when he walked into his first CrossFit class in April 2013 he was quickly humbled and challenged. Thinking he was “fit” and could handle anything with relative ease, he found a new dimension of fitness he had yet to discover. Now in his 40’s he is able to move better and have as much energy as he did 15 years ago. Blessed with some great coaches along his journey, he has cultivated a passion for fitness and the community it creates. As a result, he hopes to be a light to others, as his coaches were for him by teaching and showing others how push themselves through safe functional movement, proper nutrition, and attainable goal setting.

Coach Donny’s CrossFit experience started in 2008 when his high school gym teacher programmed CrossFit WODs in his strength and conditioning class. From that day forward, Donny, and his teacher would share thoughts on the “main site” posts and stories of workouts. In 2011 Donny completed the CrossFit Level 1 Trainer course as well as Running and Endurance Specialization. He put that methodology to the test later in 2011 by completing a marathon.
As someone who loves to learn new things, Donny is a big fan of the last sentence in Greg Glassman’s World-Class Fitness in 100 Words: “Regularly learn and play new sports.” His interests include soccer, volleyball, tennis, alpine skiing, water skiing, cross country skiing, running, hiking, Olympic lifting, hunting, fishing, and more. He is extremely excited to share his experience and help everyone at the gym improve their fitness and more importantly quality of life.
Olympic Weightlifting Coach
Coach Ryan has been involved in athletics and training since childhood. He started playing traditional sports like baseball and basketball until he discovered his passion for martial arts when he was 12 years old. He studied Tae Kwon Do and Karate throughout his teenage years, gaining a black belt in the latter by the time he was 18. During his days at UW-Madison he would study other arts: Aikido, Kendo and Ninjitsu, but his passion was reignited when he was introduced to Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and Muay Thai.
After graduating, he would later study western boxing and wrestling. In 1997, he competed in his first UFC-style competition and took his division, winning three fights in the same day. Ryan had his last fight in 2001 and maintained a winning record during those years. Knee problems later hindered his efforts to reenter the sport. In 2002, a friend suggested he turn to Olympic Weightlifting to stay in shape. A cursory internet search on the subject led him to CrossFit and he was soon hooked, both to the workouts and to the web community. Since 2013, he’s focused his athletic endeavors towards the realm of weightlifting, recently competing in the 2015 Pan Am Masters in June.
